While your driving instructors will do everything that they can to make your lessons as worthwhile as possible, students still have a certain amount of responsibility to do what they can to make the most out of the time that they spend with instructors. These pointers should help you to really get your money’s worth and ensure that you pass your test as quickly as possible.

Be On Time

It may seem like something of a simple tip, but it is remarkable just how many students end up wasting valuable time with their instructors because they are late for their lessons. Make sure that you’re ready to go a few minutes before your instructor is due to arrive. This will ensure that you can get in the car and start your lesson exactly when intended, instead of wasting a few minutes on nothing.

Ask Questions

It is a good idea to constantly do your own research when you are not having a driving lesson, particularly in terms of reading up on the Highway Code. Not only will this act as great revision for your eventual theory test, but it will also allow you to mark out areas that you are a little bit confused about. You can then raise questions about these aspects of driving with your instructor when you see them, instead of having to spend more of your own time trying to find answers. After all, that’s what your instructor is there for.

Actively Listen

Some people come into driving with the thought that they already know everything and don’t need to listen to their instructors as much as they probably should. Make it a point to pay attention to everything your instructor says. Remember that it is the instructor’s job to ensure you get ready for the rather stressful event of your driving test and everything that you are taught will be by the book to make sure you’re in a position where you don’t make mistakes.

Schedule Lessons Well

Ideally you will want to be taking your driving lessons at a time of day where you feel most fresh and alert. While it may be tempting to try and take your lessons after work, you need to consider the possible effects of fatigue on your ability to learn and you may end up not making the most of the lesson if you’re tired. Of course, everybody is different in this respect and you know your own body better than anybody else, so try to fit your lessons into your schedule at a time when they will be most useful to you.

Enjoy Yourself

While there is a certain amount of anxiety that many learners may have to work around when taking their lessons, remember that you are learning to drive for a reason. It offers freedom and more options, which will ensure you can enjoy yourself more or advance in your career effectively. As such, enjoy your driving lessons as much as possible and approach them with enthusiasm rather than trepidation.
