In addition to offering driving lessons to anybody in Coventry, The Driving Force also offers instructor training to those who want to get involved with helping others to get on the road. The course is intensive and will ensure that you learn all of the skills you need in order to provide quality tuition to all of your students.

During the course of running this program, The Driving Force has noticed that the best driving instructors all share a number of common traits, including all of the following.

Strong Knowledge

A good driving instructor will have a near unparalleled knowledge when it comes to both operating a vehicle and the rules of the road. They should know the Highway Code like the back of their hand, so that they can quickly answer any questions that their students might ask of them.

Furthermore, driving instructors will commit themselves to learning constantly in order to keep their knowledge base as up-to-date as possible. Remember that changes are often made to the rules of the road so you need to do what you can to stay on top of them in order to provide the best quality lessons to your students.

Strong Communication Skills

You are going to find yourself talking through much of the lessons that you provide. Whether that involves providing guidance to a new student as they learn the basics, offering directions that you want your more experienced students to follow or simply discussing some of the less obvious rules of the road, talking is going to be an important part of what you do.

As such you need to be able to communicate with others clearly and concisely. If your students detect shakiness in your voice or you stutter over your words too much, they may lose confidence in you because you appear to lack confidence in yourself.

Patience

Experienced driving instructors know that no two students will ever be the same. Some will pick up the core concepts of driving extremely quickly, whereas others will struggle to wrap their heads around changing gears or proper road etiquette.

This is to be expected by any good driving instructor, who need to be able to demonstrate patience when working with their students. Everybody you teach has the capacity to learn how to drive, so don’t allow yourself to get frustrated just because a student is having a little bit of difficulty. Instead, make an effort to nurture and encourage them.

Punctuality

Being punctual is one of the most underrated qualities that a driving instructor can have but it is also one of the most important to your students.

If you find yourself turning up late to the driving lessons that you have arranged, you may find your students end up getting frustrated with you, especially if they feel like they are missing out on lesson time that they are paying for due to your lateness. As such, you need to be able to manage your time effectively and make sure that you arrive when you say you do for lessons.
