So the summer is officially upon is, which means the festival season is well and truly here. Revellers from around the country are preparing to head out to the festivals that are left on the calendar, so it is only natural that you would want to be a part of that. However, for a first timer driving to a festival can be a lot of responsibility. The likelihood is that you will be bringing friends along and you may still be getting used to your car. As such, you need to ensure everything is right before you go.

Here we highlight a few tips that you can follow to ensure your festival journey goes well.

Prepare Early

You want to have as little stress on your shoulders as possible before you head out to the festival, so that means making sure you make all of the preparations that you need to make before you head out. Make sure the air pressure in your tyres is fine and that there is plenty of petrol in the tank for the journey.

Also, try to get everything that you need packed into the car in the evening, rather than the morning that you leave. It may also be a good idea to try driving around roads that you know with the car fully loaded, so you have a better idea of how it handles with all of your festival gear inside.

Get Plenty Of Rest

For many people, driving to a festival for the first time will be the first long journey that they take in their cars. It may involve navigating A-Roads and motorways, so you need to make sure you are completely alert and able to handle the driving that you have ahead.

Be sure to get plenty of rest the night before the journey and don’t do anything that is going to keep you active late into the night. It’s likely that you will be waking up early to head out, so give yourself plenty of time to wake up, grab a shower to refresh and enjoy a good breakfast. All of this should ensure that you get a good start to the day and can thus enjoy the drive a little bit more.

Don’t Start The Party Early

As tempting as it may be, always refrain from having a drink before you head out on the road. This can be difficult to do, especially if you are taking friends along for the ride and they have cracked open a couple of beers in the backseat, so make sure to exercise a little will power and wait until you arrive at the venue.

The same goes for the journey back as well. While it’s fine to have a few drinks during the course of the venue, you will need to be very aware of when you plan on heading back to ensure that you are sober when you step back into your car. Nothing ruins a fun festival faster than getting pulled over for drink driving, so avoid all of that hassle by simply not taking the risk.
